Install the Snip2Code Extension for Visual Studio

If you are using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, 2012 or 2013 development environment, the easiest way to use Snip2Code is to install our extension. The extension includes everything you need to add a new snippet and search the snippets you just need, entirely within Visual Studio.

You can install the extension using the Extension Manager of Visual Studio.

  1. Go to Tools | Extension Manager
  2. Search online gallery for Snip2Code
  3. Install and start playing with it!

If the Extension Manager doesn't work, don't struggle!!

  1. Download the VSIX file locally to your pc
  2. Double click on the downloaded file
  3. Complete the Install wizard
  4. You are now able to rock with Snip2Code Extension!

Install the Snip2Code Plug-In for Eclipse

If you are using the Eclipse development environment, the easiest way to use Snip2Code is to install our plugin. The plugin includes everything you need to add a new snippet and search the snippets you just need, entirely within Eclipse.

Simply drag and drop this into a running Eclipse workspace:

You can also install the plugin using the Software Update feature of Eclipse. The installation location is as follows:

          http://www.snip2code.com/Downloads/p2site
        

To install the plugin:

  1. Select the Help menu > Install New Software....
  2. In the Work with text box, enter:
    http://www.snip2code.com/Downloads/p2site
    Click the Add... button. In the dialog that shows, click OK (keep the name blank, it will be retrieved from the update site.)
  3. Check all the boxes available. Click the Next button. Follow the prompts to accept the terms of service and install the plugin.
  4. When the installation is complete, Eclipse prompts you to restart. Click Yes. Eclipse restarts. The plugin is installed, and you are now ready to rock with Snip2Code directly inside Eclipse!

If the p2 update site doesn't work, don't panic!!

  1. Manually download the local archive here
  2. Select the Help menu > Install New Software....
  3. In the Work with text box, click the Add... button. In the dialog that shows, click the Archive... button and select the zip file that you have just downloaded.
  4. Check all the boxes available. Click the Next button. Follow the prompts to accept the terms of service and install the plugin.
  5. When the installation is complete, Eclipse prompts you to restart. Click Yes. Eclipse restarts. The plugin is installed, and you are now ready to rock with Snip2Code directly inside Eclipse!

Install the Snip2Code Plug-In for IntelliJ IDEA

If you are using the IntelliJ development environment, the easiest way to use Snip2Code is to install our plugin. The plugin includes everything you need to add a new snippet and search the snippets you just need, entirely within IntelliJ.

The best way to install the plugin is through the IntelliJ Browsing repository feature.

  1. Go to File | Settings
  2. In the left column of the Settings form, select Plugins under IDE Settings area
  3. Click on Browse repositories... button
  4. Scroll to Snip2Code plugin for IntelliJ or just type Snip2Code on the search bar
  5. Double click on Snip2Code plugin for IntelliJ and confirm the request to download the plugin

If this procedure doesn't work, don't panic!!

  1. Manually download the local archive here
  2. Go to File | Settings
  3. In the left column of the Settings form, select Plugins under IDE Settings area
  4. Click on Install plugin from disk... button
  5. Select the downloaded archive file
  6. Click on Apply button on the bottom of the dialog
  7. Restart IntelliJ IDEA and start playing with your new Snip2Code plugin!

Install the Snip2Code Plug-In for Notepad++

If you are using the Notepad++ editor, the easiest way to use Snip2Code is to install our plugin. The plugin includes everything you need to add a new snippet and search the snippets you just need, entirely within Notepad++.

The best way to install the plugin is through the "Plugin Manager" feature of Notepad++.

  1. Go to Plugins | Plugin Manager | Show Plugin Manager
  2. In the Available tab, scroll the list (alphabetically sorted) of the plugins until you find Snip2Code. If you cannot find Snip2Code, try to update your Plugin Manager (Check how to do it here)!
  3. Select it and click on Install button
  4. Enjoy your new superior plugin to manage code snippets!

If this procedure doesn't work, don't panic!!

  1. Manually download the local archive
  2. Extract it to a temporary location on your hard drive
  3. Copy the Snip2Code.dll file in the directory C:\<NOTEPAD++_INSTALL_DIR>\plugins, where <NOTEPAD++_INSTALL_DIR> is the folder where you have installed Notepad++ (usually it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++)
  4. Copy all the remaining *.dll files in the directory C:\<NOTEPAD++_INSTALL_DIR>, where <NOTEPAD++_INSTALL_DIR> is the folder where you have installed Notepad++ (usually it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++)

Install the Snip2Code App for Mac OS X

If you are running Mac OS X, you can easily add every kind of snippet just pressing a button, and Snip2Code search is completely integrated inside the system.

If you are not comfortable with the App Store, don't give up!

  1. Download the DMG file locally to your Mac
  2. Open the disk image file just downloaded
  3. Drag the Snip2Code.app file into your system Applications folder
  4. Launch it
  5. An icon will be placed in your status bar; click on it and dive into the amusing world of Snip2Code!

Install the Snip2Code HTML Widget

If you want to show your preferred snippets in your own web site, blog or forum, this is the best way to keep them always up-to-date: an iframe providing just the code of the snippet, together with syntax highlighting and line numbers!

You can select the visualization options (width/height of the iframe to display, and optionally the range of lines to show via startLine and endLine parameters) and copy&paste the HTML content (i.e. the iframe element) into your target.

You can generate the HTML code for your widget directly from the View page of the snippet you want to share with the world! Click on the EMBED button.
